For the execution of the aforesaid tasks along with other regular works like planning and programming, the Department of Archaeology has eight sections in its office at Ramshah Path, Kathmandu:

Administration Section: This section is responsible for daily administrative work of the Department. The account sub-section is also under this section.

Monument Conservation Section: This section is responsible for the preservation and maintenance of the monuments throughout the country.

Engineering Section: This section is responsible for the preparation of estimates and designs and technical supervision of the conservation and restoration of the monuments. Apart from preparing detailed estimate drawing and designs of the Restoration and renovation and any conservation works undertaken by the Department of Archaeology.This section also supervises all technical aspects also.

Photography and Documentation Section: This section is responsible for the preparation of the photographic documents of all types of the cultural heritage. The necessary photographic documentations are prepared by this section before during and after any constervation works carried out by the Department of Archaeology.

Planning, Evaluation and Publication Section: This section prepares annual plans and programs for the Department and evaluates their performation implementation and is also responsible for publication of the Department ‘s publication,including "Ancient Nepal".
World Heritage Conservation Section: This section is responsible for the management, preservation and monitoring of the Kathmandu Valley World Heritage Sites.

Archaeology Section: This section is responsible for carrying out the archaeological exploration and excavations throughout the country.

Curio Inspection Section: All the art objects and handicrafts [except made of chemical soil and computerized] to be exported from Nepal should be checked and
duly stamped from this section. The art objects older than hundered years are considered antique by law and will not be permitted to export. Therefore the visititors are advised to buy only new objects. It may entail problems if one buys carbonated and chamically treated objects looking like an antique.
The following offices are also functioning under the Department.

National Archives

The National Archives is located at Ramshah Path, Kathmandu. In its custody there is a vast and varied collection of more than 50,000 manuscripts of the Hindu, the Buddhist and Tibetan related to oriental history,culture,tantra and other archival documents. Several manuscripts are writing in gold and silver ink. Many Buddhist manuscripts preserved herein are considered as the foremost and probably the oldest Buddhist manuscript in the World. It has already microfilmed all the manuscripts preserved herein. There is a good facility provided to the researchers of printing, developing and studying the microfilm.

Central Cultural Heritage Conservation Laboratory

This laboratory is located at Bhandarkhal garden of Patan palace complex and is responsible to under take chemical conservation of movable and immovable cultural properties of the country.
Monument Maintenance and palace management offices.
There are four Monument Maintenance and Durbar Herchaha Offices at Patan, Bhaktapur, Nuwakot and Lamjung. General keep-up and the periodic maintenance of the ancient palaces and monuments of the respective areas are their responsibilities.
